Building
Committee Updates
March 29, 2008 - Update from
Paul Hollmann, Building Committee Chairman
Since the beginning of the “Taking the Heights”
campaign, we have set a goal for beginning the building construction
in April of 2008. In the fall of 2007 during our “Presenting
the Project” events and “Dedication Sunday,” our goals remained
unchanged. Now that April is here, we want you all to understand
where we are in the process.
All the major aspects of our project have been in the works
for some time. Several key things have been occurring during
the last couple of months. Our project budget has been updated,
requiring us to implement some cost savings changes in the scope
of our project. Our building design drawings are nearly completed
and our site plan was presented to the Hebron Planning and Zoning
Commission for approval on March 11, 2008. At the moment, our
site plan approval is hinging on receiving a letter from the
State of Connecticut Department of Public Health regarding our
well water system.
During the next month we expect to finalize our building plans
and construction estimate. An updated floor plan and exterior
perspective have been included as part of this update so you
can see for yourselves how the building is taking shape. The
financing is the critical piece of the project at the moment.
We are actively seeking the financing needed to begin the project.
We are currently investigating opportunities with firms that
specialize in securing funding for churches and our initial
conversations are positive.
Our new goal for completing the building plans and final construction
estimate is by May 1, 2008. Our goal for having the financing
in hand is the middle of May and our goal for beginning construction
is the first week of June.
We have made great strides towards “Taking the Heights” and
everyone should be encouraged with the progress thus far. As
we seek God, He will enlighten us, sustain us and encourage
us in all that we do. Be praying for our body, our building
and our mission to serve the community of Hebron. While we can’t
say for certain exactly when the building construction is going
to begin, trust that God is working in our midst to provide
a way for us.
July 9, 2007 – Update from Paul Hollmann, Building Committee
Chairman
Let me take this opportunity to bring you up to
date on what the building committee has been doing since “Celebration
Sunday” for the “Taking The Heights” campaign. We met in early
December and discussed our plans for moving the project forward.
We discussed several design and construction methods and options
available to us and established meeting dates for the first
quarter of 2007. We also selected several architects and design-build
construction firms to contact and had them submit their resumes
and qualifications.
In January we reviewed the information we received and selected
three architects and three design-build firms to interview.
We conducted our interviews in early February. Our last interviews
took place on 2/22/07 after being postponed from 2/14/07 due
to a snowstorm. We then met and summarized our thoughts about
the interviews and how we should move forward. On April 2, 2007
we agreed to hire the design-build construction firm of CFM
Construction of Glastonbury, Connecticut to provide both the
design and construction of our new building. They are a seasoned
firm with a good reputation. We felt as a committee that the
design-build approach would lead to the development of a building
plan that would provide the most building while keeping within
our proposed budget.
Since selecting CFM, we have had 2 formal meetings with them
to work on plan development. The plan is taking shape and we
will be meeting with them again on July 30, 2007 to discuss
plan developments and anticipated costs. In addition to designing
the building, we have hired the engineering and surveying firm
of Tarbell, Heintz & Associates, Inc. of East Hartford,
Connecticut to revise our site plans. We had a preliminary meeting
with both CFM and Tarbell & Heintz on 7/2/07 to discuss
the relationship of the building on the site and how things
might best suit the land and our anticipated needs.
As our building plans progress, please keep the building committee,
CFM and Tarbell & Heintz in your prayers. Pray that God’s
vision for The Worship Center’s building will be imprinted on
all of our hearts and that the final plans will be a reflection
of His desire for us to serve Him in Hebron and the surrounding
communities.
